Welcome to the #canadaliveshere project!

This project is all about connecting you to the unique people and places across Canada.

Each day I share stories about one Canadian community as a “thread” (a series of short tweet-length posts accompanied by images) to:

  • Introduce you to parts of the country you’ve never heard of.

  • Bring you some of the fascinating history of places both new and familiar.

  • Help you learn about some of the nuances that contribute to the spirit of each community.

  • Remind you that as Canadians our diversity is our strength.

  • Encourage you to share your stories about each Canadian community to enrich everyone’s understanding.

I’m doing this because I care about:

  • Bringing us together

  • Honouring our unique stories

  • Valuing an inclusive Canadian culture that cares about trying to understand each other.

Because deep down we have more in common than we do different.

And most importantly of all, because we’re better together!

3457 Unique Canadian Communities

In preparing to undertake this project, I consulted several sources including census data, atlases, maps, encyclopedias, and other databases to come up with a list of as many unique communities as I could find.

That number is currently 3457!

It will fluctuate as I come across data supporting the addition or subtraction of communities from the list.

I’ve randomized this list and over the next 10 years will feature a community a day until I’ve covered ‘em all!! It’d be awesome if you joined me as we explore them together.
